I once did a word web with “not good enough” in the center. Check out the blog post from April 2, 2010 for a description of word webs if you haven’t done one before. From that word web I came to the realization that “I am” is the opposite of “not good enough” rather than “good enough” being the opposite. When I think about “I am” it means being who I am with confidence and without all of the judgments and perfectionism attached to “not good enough.”
The judgment of “not good enough” might show up in your personal life or your work life. It may show up occasionally or it may run rampant. When we spend time thinking about or trying to fix our perceived shortcomings and living up to someone else’s expectations or our own expectations, for that matter, we limit our ability to function fully. In essence we tone down who we are.
When you claim “I am” it takes “not good enough” off the table and creates a much bigger space to live your life the way you choose. You begin to act without the filter of “what will other people think?” or “what is the right choice?” It gives you the ability to discern what you really want your life to look like and frees up your ability to take steps toward that vision. It gives you a platform from which to jump in and create your life.
