The question of where are you awake in your life implies that there are places where you are asleep in your life. The trick is to recognize when you have stopped being awake in your daily life and then fully engaging again. Many people who don’t like their jobs, or their school, or their relationship start clicking off when they are in those moments. The problem comes when we forget to re-engage and be fully awake.
It sometimes looks like this: You don’t like your job so you go through the motions and tone down your essence so that You are barely there. Then you go home and forget to wake back up, only partially paying attention. It’s kind of like trying to have a conversation with someone while they are texting. They say they can do both at once, but it isn’t true. Only part of their mind is on either task. When you string days together where you are toning yourself down it becomes difficult to click back in. And, part of the reason is that you don’t even realize that you have fallen asleep in your life.
Imagine how different your relationships would be either at home or at work if you were fully present. And, I am talking about relationships both with others and with yourself. Imagine how you might feel if you were operating fully engaged in each interaction. Imagine how your life might be different if you didn’t switch between “looking good” on autopilot and fully living your life. Where are you awake in your life? And, even more importantly, where are you asleep in your life?
