Grenelda and Herman Thurman are the characters who live your life when you are not fully awake in your life. I was introduced to Grenelda and Herman many years ago in the book, Living on Purpose, by Brown, Paulson, and Wolf. I had a Grenelda moment last night and thought I would share.
I had a new evening meeting to attend last night. I printed out the directions, gathered my “stuff” and got into the car. It was rush hour and I was hoping that I wouldn’t run into too much traffic and that I had allowed enough time, even with rush hour. Here comes the Grenelda part – I drove about one mile and realized that I had started out in the wrong direction. So, that meant I had to either turn around or make a big loop to get to my correct path. As I sat at the stop light, through two red lights (remember it was rush hour) I lightened up and thought, “Oh, Grenelda is here and it’s time for me to pay attention.”
Grenelda is a way to lighten things up. I could have gone down the path of – what were your thinking, it isn’t that hard to simply turn left instead of going right and perhaps making yourself late! What are they going to think if you walk into that meeting late? Maybe you should turn around and go home and not risk being late. I didn’t do any of that and instead thought – “Wow, I didn’t even know that I wasn’t awake and that Grenelda was running the show!” It was a good reminder for me to get present in my life.
As we step into the way back machine, here is an example of Herman Thurman in action. My husband, John, put his bike on top of the car to go take a bike ride in the Arboretum. When he got home he got out of the car, opened the garage door, got back into the car, and drove the car into the garage. Now, did you hear me mention that he took the bike off the car? No! What he did do is come into the house and announce that Herman Thurman apparently drove into the garage with the bike on top of the car. The effect was that we were able to laugh about it rather than going down the path of – what were you thinking, how could you not see the bike on top of the car, etc. And, you know, that interaction could have gone on for weeks.
Grenelda and Herman Thurman are not ways to avoid responsibility. They are ways for you to lighten up about some of the silly things you do when you aren’t paying attention, when your mind is somewhere else. Grenelda and Herman act as signs for you that it’s time to get your body and your mind in the same place. They are a way for you to step back and see that life doesn’t have to be so serious and full of judgment. I love Grenelda and have a really clear image of what she looks like – I”m not going to share because I don’t want to infringe on your own personal Grenelda. I would love to hear about your Grenelda and Herman moments!
I have been experiencing laughter through out my house, along with other family member hearing as well. It sounded like an old lady cackling. It had me baffled but I could feel her presence n almost see her but no name and she hid her face for a while. (I am developing on my gifts in dreaming and mediumship,so I continued to ask for her in dream state.) the past few dream she has made contact but lot revealing herself, until now. I saw her face, and she played with me. Not nicely but not in any mean ways either. I had received the name grenelda upon waking and immediately googled it for my own self skepticism… And here I am! This is such a wonderful affirmation! Thank you, you’re the only post out here on this character 🙂 blessings
Isn’t it interesting when you find those synchronicities? Your dream and this post. It may even give you a different way of thinking about Grenelda and what she might teach you. Where might you be forgetting to pay attention in your life?
