Here’s how a project goes when you have Aliveness Energy with low Workability Energy

I saw this picture today and had to laugh.  I bought a desk last year after looking around for the perfect desk for at least 12 months and it came in pieces!  So, it took me a year of hanging out in my Truth Energy to find the perfect desk and then I had to call on my Workability Energy to assemble the pieces into an actual desk.  After my initial, “oh no, there are so many pieces!”, I went step by step and put it together easily.  There were clear pictures and each piece had its place.  My desk is wonderful, by the way.

Now, fast forward to today.  I had stacks of papers all over my desk and bookshelves – imagine that!  So,  I declared that I would get them all organized and put away.  Here’s what it looks like when you have a big start and no clear place to put everything.

  • Let’s take everything off the shelves and desk and make one big pile
  • Now, make new stacks of “like” things (I did get all of the out of date papers into the recycle bin!)
  • Then, create file folders for the new stacks, including one stack of papers that I have to type into the computer – notes from various meetings on 12 different legal pads – yikes!
  • Oh, wait, I don’t have enough file folders – I remembered that I have a coupon for $15 off $50 at the office supply store.  File folders don’t cost $50, so call the rest of the family and see what they need.
  • Drive to the store to get folders and assorted other stuff
  • Come back to the stacks of things and – I lost my start
  • I think I’ll write a blog
And, that’s how low Workability with high Aliveness often approaches projects that don’t have clear guidelines.  I think I get overwhelmed by having so many pieces that don’t go together.  I actually have a file folder labeled “All the Stuff I Don’t Know What Else to do With”.  Periodically I go through that file to see if I can chunk things together in their own file.
Now, here’s where it really gets interesting.  I am extremely organized when I am guiding other people!  I have a clear focus, a sense of the framework for the process and a plan.  It’s the day to day “stuff” that trips me up.  Anyone else have that experience?

Woohoo, I have entered the notes from one legal pad into the computer and filed the hard copies in the correct folder – it's a good day!
