I have driven past this sign for years and chuckle each time I see it. I shook my head the first time I saw the sign and had to think about what it meant. It seems like there is no way to get to Linden Place, no way to turn. How many times have you felt like that in your life?
What if you step back and take a new look? When you are once again up against the same old thing it’s time to step away and see if you can get a new perspective. As with the sign, you can’t turn onto Linden Place, but you can go around the block and enter from a different direction. What is a new thought you could have about a problem that has been challenging you for a long time?
Long time problems often take on the illusion that they will always be that way, that you have no options. We create a story about situations or relationships and then act as if that story is true. And yet, when you are able to expand your thoughts and explore creative options you may find that you have many choices.
Even though this sign says there is one way (and reinforced with an arrow!), you don’t have to believe that in your life. The way it has always been may simply be familiar and you may have forgotten to look for alternatives. You have many, many possibilities and it may only take stepping back to give yourself the freedom to explore some non-conventional ideas. When you explore, even the really out-there ideas can lead you to options you may have never considered. Have fun exploring!
