Today is our 37th anniversary and yesterday John and I took the day off and spent the day in the city along the lakefront. (we couldn’t synch up our schedules for today, and – it was sunny and 90 yesterday and rainy, rainy, rainy today – so it all turned out perfectly).
We started our day at Hot Doug’s. If you are ever in Chicago it is well worth the trip. I had Chardonnay and Jalapeno Rattlesnake Sausage with Spicy Guava Mayonnaise and Moody Blue Cheese and John had Tequila, Black Bean and Lime Chicken Sausage with Tomatillo Mole and Habanero-Jack Cheese. It’s a tiny place in a neighborhood and lots of fun and oh so good!
We then spent the afternoon along the lakefront, walking and talking. It’s hard to believe that we have been married for 37 years!
It was fun to people watch and enjoy the diversity of the city. We even got to sit and watch the Grant Park Orchestra rehearsing for the upcoming 4th of July weekend performance. There are so many interesting and free things to do in Chicago.
I love that you can see part of the skyline in the “bean” at Millenium Park! I also love that the actual name of the bean is “Cloud Gate” and that this was a perfect day to see the reflection of the clouds.
After a hot afternoon on the lakefront we went over to Scooter’s for custard. We saw them featured on Chicago’s Best this past Sunday night and were delighted that we checked them out. The custard was amazing. John had a strawberry concrete mixer and I had a peanut butter and chocolate covered pretzel concrete – just the thing to cool us off!!!
All in all a great day to celebrate our anniversary and a new resolve to spend at least one day a month exploring the neighborhoods in Chicago, experiencing the flavors of the city!
