Walking on Silk Day

Today is a glorious day – it is walking on silk day. What is that, you ask? It’s that one day of the year when the magnolia petals fall to the ground and you get to feel them on your bare feet. It feels like silk! I love, love, love it. There are some years that it’s really cold out when the petals start falling. Or, there are some years that we have a hard freeze on the exact day that the magnolia blooms.

This year is perfect (and it’s still only March)! I am sitting on my front porch smelling the sweet scent of the blossoms and throughly enjoying my beautiful tree. The tree hit its full bloom yesterday and then started shedding its petals today. So, I have been tippy-toeing through the petals several times today. I’m sure the neighbors think I may have lost my mind, but oh well.

Two years ago my husband and I were in Germany during the time our magnolia bloomed. I dearly missed my tree, but my son made a video of him walking through the petals for me. It was really funny because he is 6’3″ and he did a great imitation of me tippy-toeing. It made my day! What are some of your fond memories?
