There is a school crossing guard near my house who helps children safely cross a busy street. What makes her noteworthy is that she waves and smiles at each car that passes by. And, she has been doing so for years. I have to admit there have been times that I have gone out of my way to pass by her because I looked forward to that connection. I don’t know her name and I’ve never spoken to her, but she has had an impact on me.
This is an example of the small moments that can affect someone’s life. The power of a kindness, a smile, a wave. We often think we have to do some grand gesture to make a difference in the world. And, a small moment can be equally as powerful. It can mean everything to the recipient of your kindness!
So, when you don’t think you’re making the difference in the world that you had imagined, remember the power of a wave and a smile. We connect with each other in many ways and they all count. We all have a contribution to give this planet. What is yours? What was the last small kindness you received that changed things for you?
