Ebb and Flow

My current workout place is closing so today was my last day. It got me thinking about the ebbs and flows of life. For the past four months I have been working out at the same time as a group of people. We would say “hi” to each other and chat briefly about nothing in particular. They touched my life. And, interestingly enough, as I was writing this, the barista at the coffee shop where I hang out to write, came over and started talking to me about life. She sat down and we had a brief, yet deep conversation. Another connection.

You never know when you are going to meet the person who connects you to exactly the perfect person for you. When was the last time you struck up a conversation with someone that you don’t know? For those of you with low Aliveness energy I know this is tricky. Here’s a tip – it starts with saying “hello” to the person next to you in line. I know it is outside of your comfort zone, but sometimes you find out that you have an interesting conversation or make a connection that you didn’t anticipate.

Those momentary connections may lead to more interactions and sometimes they are simply a one-time interaction. In the past I used to feel very sad when people moved through my life. I didn’t like to lose that connection. I have come around to the space of honoring the ebb and flow of relationships. And, I do have to admit that it’s much easier to stay connected with people in this day of social media and the internet. But, I digress from the real core of the issue. It’s about honoring the ebb and flow rather than clinging to how things have always been. It’s all about honoring change.

How do you feel about change? Do you resist it, embrace it, or are you somewhere in between? Sometimes our resistance to change takes more energy than actually going with the flow of change. This is something that I am intimately aware of. I have a friend who laughs when I say something like, “I really don’t know which step to take next.” I am in the midst of taking that next step, but haven’t shifted my thinking to notice the change that I have undertaken. Our minds are so funny!

What change do you resist? Where are you going with the flow? Where do you recognize the ebb and flow in your life?
